Kate Zuckerman brings firsthand experience in business transitions, having successfully navigated the sale of her own beverage company after more than a decade of ownership and operations. This experience informed her subsequent consulting practice, where she identified a critical need among small business owners for specialized exit support. Recognizing the complexity of business valuation and sales processes, Kate expanded Conscious Consults' services to address this underserved segment of the market.
Gavin Raphael contributes extensive transaction expertise and industry knowledge to the partnership. Kate first experienced Gavin's professional capabilities when he served as the broker in the sale of her family's beverage business in 2020. His demonstrated commitment to ethical practices, deep industry knowledge, and unwavering client advocacy throughout that process made him the natural choice when Kate sought to enhance Conscious Consults' brokerage capabilities.

Kate Zuckerman is the Founder and Principal of Conscious Consults, a consulting firm serving small businesses and nonprofit organizations. Having successfully navigated her own company through a business sale, Kate developed a passion for the intricacies of business transitions. She further refined her expertise through professional training in Business Brokerage with the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA) and now provides comprehensive business brokerage services in partnership with Gavin Raphael.
Prior to founding Conscious Consults, Kate served as Chief Cultural Officer of Blue Ridge Bucha, a regional beverage company that she co-founded and operated with her husband for 11 years. Throughout the company's journey from startup to successful exit, Kate oversaw all aspects of organizational strategy and operations, with particular emphasis on human resources, marketing, public relations, administration, and business development. Under her strategic leadership, Blue Ridge Bucha expanded to a team of over 20 professionals, achieved regional distribution across nine states with more than 300 accounts, and generated $1M in annual sales. The company's innovative refillable bottle program saved over one million bottles, earning recognition as Whole Foods Market's Regional Supplier of the Year.
Kate actively contributes to the small business ecosystem through her service on the Loan Committee for Community Investment Collaborative (CIC). She is fluent in Spanish, holds a BA in Latin American Studies from Pitzer College, and earned a Graduate Certificate in Social Justice from Harvard University's Extension School.

Gavin Raphael has been a Principal of Light & Raphael Business Brokerage, based in Richmond, VA, since 2014. He has brokered hundreds of business sales across a wide variety of industries, and is licensed to sell commercial real estate. He also has 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, where he worked in mergers and acquisitions, research, strategic planning and financial analysis. During his two decades in corporate America, he worked at several companies, including: Wachovia Securities, Philip Morris International, and Rohm and Haas Chemical Company.
Gavin possesses a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Vermont, and an MBA in Finance and Strategy from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also actively involved in the community, having served as Board President for the Sabot at Stony Point School. Mr. Raphael has also coached boys and girls teams in the local recreational league and has raised funds for Anthem Lemonaid in support of kids with cancer. Additionally, he was an Adjunct Professor in the University of Richmond’s Executive MBA Program. Married and the father of three, he enjoys pickleball, traveling and following Queens Park Rangers (QPR) and the Boston Red Sox. He was born and raised in London, England.
